New Wednesday Night Adult Class on “Living in the God Zone”! Wednesday night adult classes as well as youth and children’s activities resumed on Wednesday, January 10 at 6:00 pm. Men studies, women studies, coed studies, book discussions, video based, crocheting, knitting, you name it, there is something for everyone! For adults, Pastor Steve is starting a new informal and conversational Bible study entitled “Living in the God Zone.” We will search the Old and New Testaments for the pervasive scriptural theme of the “kingdom of God” and discuss how to live in this new reality with grace and truth. Our pastor’s class is open to all adults. There is no homework and you can start anytime! Located in room 117.
“Discerning the Voice of God” Thursday Bible Study – “Is that you, God?” Have you asked that question before? Maybe many times. How do we know if it’s God speaking to us or just our own wants and desires making themselves known? It’s called discernment……being able to discern the voice of God from all the other voices we hear. On January 18th a new study by Priscilla Shirer will be offered entitled “Discerning the Voice of God”. Nancy Stewart will lead this seven week study each Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. in class room 101. As Shirer explains, “God desires a personal relationship with each of us in which He speaks directly to us. The more intimate your relationship with Him, the clearer God’s voice becomes!” Come joins at 10:00 a.m. beginning January 18th. If you have questions or need a book, contact Nancy Stewart at 256/586-0351.

Ghana Mission Trip Presentation January 28 – Have you noticed the new art by the church office celebrating our annual mission to Ghana? Now we get to hear about the recent Mission Trip. A team of 12 from Arab First UMC went for the third annual Ghana Mission during the Christmas holidays. You supported them, prayed for them, and gave toward their projects. Now come and hear how they shared Christ with others in a way that changed their own lives. The event will be on Sunday, January 28, at 7:00 on in the sanctuary. You are invited!
Pre-K Sunday School Volunteer Needed – We currently need someone to teach the Pre-K Sunday School class on the 4th Sunday of the month, beginning January 28. Please consider volunteering! Let Heather Tallent know if you are interested. You must be Safe Sanctuary trained.
Room in the Inn – The United Methodist Men is coordinating with Marshall County Homeless Ministries and we are a host site for Room in the Inn. We will be housing our neighbors on five nights this winter. The remaining dates are 1/28, 2/25, and 3/25. If you are willing to assist in this worthwhile endeavor, please contact Marc Scarborough or John Richey.
Thank you from the Youth – Thank you to all who supported our youth at Encounter Weekend, it was a huge success. You contributed to help to find lost youth in our community and give them the opportunity to experience an Encounter with the Lord. It truly is a blessing to witness over 600 youth come together regardless of denominational differences and worship together as a unified body of Christ. Our hope with Encounter is to be an example of unity among the churches in our community. Without your support, many students in our community would not have had this wonderful opportunity. Thank you again for all the support you give to our youth here at AFUMC. You truly are making a difference in their lives.
