Lenten StudiesLent is a time to contemplate what our Lord and Savior did for each and every one of us when he endured crucifixion and death on the cross for our sins.  But, as people of faith, we know the story did not end there as we look ahead to the celebration of Jesus resurrection on Easter Sunday, April 16th.  Take part in one of four Lenten studies being offered this year at AFUMC.  From exploring Jesus’ Final Words From The Cross (a Adam Hamilton study led by Myles Teston on Wednesday nights starting March 8 at 6:00 pm) to Preparing My Heart For Easter (a 10:00 am Thursday morning woman’s study starting March 5), there is a Lenten study and meeting time for everyone. Lenten studies will also be offered on Sunday mornings at 9:30am (Randy Tucker leading The Path to the Cross) and 10:55am (Chris Hemphill leading Creed.)

Update on Youth House Space Expansion – As you may have heard or seen in the newspaper, our church had a misunderstanding with the Arab City Council over the approval we received to place a temporary, portable classroom by our youth house. Our Trustees, Church Council, and staff worked to follow the procedures for approval, and we will be good neighbors and work to honor the outcome of the misunderstanding. We ask for your patience and prayers as our Trustees work out a resolution for the town and for the needed temporary space to house our expanding youth ministries.

Young -In-HeartYoung-In-Heart, the Senior Adult Ministry of AFUMC will have its next meeting on Thursday March 16th. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall at 10:30 to renew acquaintances and welcome guests and newcomers.  Our 11 o’clock program will feature Ms. Jean-Ann Moon of Marshall County’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (MCRSVP). She will introduce the current programs and opportunities for senior learners and volunteers as
well as updating us of RSVP’s new capital building program.  Our singalong will feature Irish favorites/songs led by Wayne Kendrick.  Our annual Saint Patrick’s Day lunch (11:30) will feature corned beef and cabbage by our own Terry Z.  Donation for lunch is $3 per person.  Please sign up at the YIH table in the Narthex.  Bring a favorite dessert or salad to share for lunch.

IF:Arab Follow Up – Tonight – We had such a wonderful experience hosting IF:Arab, a women’s conference, at our church recently. It was a powerful, encouraging time gathering together with 58 Christian women in fellowship and study. IF:Gathering remains true to the mission of equipping and releasing women into the world to make disciples.  In keeping with that same mission, we will be offering the next IF:Gathering Bible study tonight at 5:30 PM, facilitated by Brooke Hemphill.  This is a 7 week long study called Enjoying Jesus: 12 Experiences That Will Draw You Closer.

“Busyness, numbness, and so many other things get in-between us and experiencing nearness with Christ. The good news is that God has given us very simple tools that will help us experience His presence in the ordinary everyday moments of our lives. In our time, these moments are unpublished, quiet, and hidden from the view of our followers, family, and friends. These are the tried-and-true tools used by the Church for thousands of years to draw near to God experience the full, abundant life He calls us to. It’s when we choose these things that we experience Him, and when we do that, everything changes.”

Join us tonight for an introduction to the study and other exciting news on the IF:Arab front. Check out the bulletin board next to the elevator for information and additional resources and tools from IF:Gathering!

Safe Sanctuary Background Check Money – If you haven’t turned in the $12 fee for your safe sanctuary background check, please turn it in to the church office as soon as possible.

Operation Christmas Child – It’s not too early.  Please notice the Operation Christmas Child Collection boxes near our church entrances.  This month, March, we are asking members to focus on bringing small toys, e.g., little bags of Legos, Barbie dolls, small nerf balls, matchbox cars, small stuffed animals, etc.  We will be collecting different items each month, then scheduling a church packing party in early November.  Just drop your donations in the boxes.

Watoto Children’s Choir – April 7th – We are pleased to announce that the Watoto Children’s Choir will be here in concert on April 7.  The Watoto Choir members are orphans and vulnerable children from the Watoto Church in Uganda. Their new production is Signs & Wonders.  The children, through worship, dance and their stories of hope, will share how their lives have been changed and how through Christ, they have been called into a life of purpose.  We host these children and the Aunties/Uncles in our church homes Friday night, providing them breakfast the next morning and a sack lunch.  If you would like to serve as a host home, please contact Debby at 256-797-4648 or the church office.

Baby Bottle Boomerang – From Psalm 127:3 we read:  Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from Him.  Through the Real Life Pregnancy Center here in Marshall County, you have the opportunity to support moms, their babies’ needs and the medical clinic.  Simply pick up a baby bottle located in baskets by the church office entrance and in the narthex (hallway outside the sanctuary by the tower entrance) and fill the bottle with coins, cash, or checks made to Real Life Pregnancy Center.  Then return the filled bottles to the church office.  All donations of $25 or more can receive a tax receipt; place your name and address in the bottle with the donations.  For more information call 878-1300 or 486-2090.

Wednesday Night Meal Tickets – We are going to start offering a meal ticket for Wednesday night dinners. This meal ticket allows you to purchase meals at a discounted rate. Adult meal tickets are 10 meals for $60.00 and a child ticket is 10 meals for $40.00. We will keep the meal tickets at church, so you won’t have to keep up with them. You may purchase your tickets from the office or on Wednesday nights.  We are really excited about this and hope it is a benefit for everyone.
