Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday morning between services (9:00 – 9:15) and (10:30 – 10:45).

Heather Tallent named as Children’s Director – Our Staff-Parish Relations Team is happy to announce that Heather Tallent begin as our new Director of Children’s Ministry on August 1st! All parents are invited to a parent’s meeting with Heather Tallent on Wednesday, August 10th, 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Heather, Welcome to the Staff Team!

Backpack Blessing – On Sunday, August 7th, we will have a special morning of blessing our students and educators as we go back to school. All teachers and staff (from any school system) will be recognized in our worship services. Make plans to come and be prayed for! All children are invited to bring their backpacks and place them below the altar before the service begins, then pick them up afterward to be ready for school. In addition, as a mission project we are asking you to bring backpacks you would like to donate and place them below the altar before the service.

The Emmaus Cluster will meet at Guntersville First United Methodist Church on August 9th at 6:30 pm. Remember it is “pot luck”. If you bring a dessert bring a drink to share.

As a result of recent events, the United Methodist Men would like to show our appreciation to the Arab City Police Department selfless dedication and commitment to our community by serving a meal on Tuesday, August 16th and Wednesday, August 17th around 11:00 a.m. We are looking for help in preparing side dishes (vegetables, desserts, or drinks), set up, servers, and clean up. We will also take monetary donation to purchase the side dishes. If you would be willing to assist in this endeavor, please contact John Richey, Marc Scarborough, Shannon Hill, or contact the church office.

Aging Is Not For Sissies. Are you making the most of your “Golden
Years”? In an effort to reach the aging population of our community with pertinent information and creative solutions, Arab First United Methodist Church is hosting a unique event entitled “Aging Is Not For Sissies”. The event will be held at the church Saturday, August 20th from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The agenda includes a keynote address by Rev. W.G. Henry to be followed by informative sessions on “The Financial Realities of Retirement”, “Preventing Identity Theft”, “Making Your Home a Safe Place” and “Identifying the Early Signs of Dementia”. There will also be a panel discussion regarding the Role of the Caregiver. Throughout the day Marshall Medical Centers personnel will be on hand to do free health screenings as well. This informative morning is being offered free of charge to the entire

Altar flowers 2016 – If you would like to place flowers in the sanctuary in memory or honor of someone, please call or come by the church office (256-586-5792). You can choose between Buddy’s Flowers or Scott’s Urban Earth. The following dates are available: August 21st, August 28th, and October 9th.

Fall Prayer Retreat – Pastor Steve invites you to an overnight prayer retreat for the men and women of Arab First UMC on Thursday-Friday, September 8-9, at the retreat center of Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman. Steve will facilitate our journey, with one of the sessions hosted by one of the sisters. The theme will be “The Word is Very Near You: Three Ways to Pray the Scriptures.” Registration forms with all the details may be found on the Hospitality Table. Friends are welcome.

Art for Ghana – Pastor Steve has placed in the office a framed depiction of a scene in a Ghana market with last year’s mission team. It is a canvas print of a painting by our own Sue Kirkpatrick. Additional canvas prints are available from Sue for a donation of $75 to the Ghana mission. Please call the office for her contact information if you would like one.
