Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday morning between services (9:00 – 9:15) and (10:30 – 10:45).

Start the New Year with a new study – This study entitled “Love and Respect” by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs is facilitated by Josh and Mary Shumate for this class suitable for couples as well as individuals (classroom 117 at 9:30 am).

Vacation Bible School is just around the corner. If you would like to be a part of Bible School this summer a kick off meeting will be Tuesday, January 19th, at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary.

The Wednesday Night meal starts at 5:00 pm. The requested donation for the meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children. January 20th the meal is tacos, nachos, and dessert.

The Young-in-Heart will start off the 2016 year on January 21st enjoying a Brunch at 10:00 in the Fellowship Hall. It will be a celebration honoring the Young-in-Heart’s 10th year. A scrapbook is being prepared showing members through the 10 years. If you have never attended, this would be a good time to “check us out.”
We will also celebrate “everyone’s birthday” so bring an inexpensive gift or a white elephant (wrapped) for a gift exchange. Also bring some good ideas for planning the 2016 meetings. Julie Smith, from the “Home Instead” program for seniors will speak on “Aging Well.’’ Reservations are required. The sign-up-sheet has been moved to the other side of the sanctuary front doors. Look for our poster.

Leadership Summit January 23rd – All members of the Church Council and members at large, program ministry staff, Trustees, Staff-Parish Team, and Finance Team members are urged to attend our Leadership Summit on Saturday, Jan 23, from 9:00 to noon at the Cherokee Ridge Clubhouse. This also includes the above leadership teams required by the Discipline for administration of the church program, as well as any staff who oversee programs.
The K – 5th grade Children’s Choirs will be singing next Sunday, January 24th, during the 9:30 and 10:55 am services. Please dress in your normal Sunday attire.

The Second WOLF Men’s Conference is scheduled for January 30th at Arab First Baptist Church. Former Alabama running back Bobby Humphrey, Gary Zelesky, Lonnie Lundy, and Andrew Fortner will be one of the featured speakers. The conference, which will start at 1 p.m. and end at 5 p.m., is designed to reach men of all ages but especially teenage boys as they begin to make life choices that will affect them for the rest of their lives.

Ghana Mission Presentation and Fellowship Potluck Supper – The Ghana mission team will be sharing about their recent mission trip to Ghana, Africa and Eugemot Orphanage on Sunday, January 31st. Come for supper at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall; please bring a dish to share if you are able for this potluck meal. A program will be held at 6:00 pm in the sanctuary.

Circle 6 is collecting Wal-Mart cards during the month of January. Any amount is fine, and people can also donate cash. All cards/monies are going to the “Transitions Class” at Arab High School to help with the expenses of the class’s Life Skills lessons. The students cook once a week, and also do 2 fund raiser meals for the faculty during the year. All groceries are bought at Wal-Mart.

Piano Refurbishing – Have you noticed our piano is missing? Our church is blessed to have a very nice Steinway grand piano that has lasted for many decades. Through a generous anonymous donation, we are happy to say that our piano is being rebuilt and refurbished. For a few weeks, we will be using a keyboard while it is visiting the shop for its restoration.

New Sound and video capability in the fellowship hall! Because of a generous donation, we now have a built in sound system and wall mounted TV’s (for videos, power point, etc.) in the fellowship hall. Keep this feature in mind as you plan programs for 2016, as the room is now more versatile.

There are two pairs of glasses in the office. If you have lost a pair please check the desk in the office.
The January book for the Christian Book Club is “Chasing Sunsets” by Christian novelist Karen Kingsbury. Copies of the book are available in the office for a donation of $9. The discussion meeting for it will be February 2nd at noon in the Sisters in Christ classroom.

We would like to thank all our wonderful church family for the cards – gifts – and support during Mom’s passing. More than anything for your prayers!!! Each thought and prayer was felt and greatly appreciated. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we try and pickup our lives and live as Mom would have wanted us to.
