Adult WINTER Opportunities ~ 2016

AFUMC book club meets the first Tuesday of every month at noon in room 102. Bring your lunch and enjoy a discussion of a different book each month. Joyce Marcotte is the facilitator.

Tuesday morning study meeting at 10am

Companions in Christ: The Way of Grace
Join Pastor Steve West for this ten week study starting January 19 as to explore eight biblical characters from the Gospel of John who discover God’s grace through their encounters with Jesus. (Meet in room 102.)

Wednesday evening studies meeting at 5:45pm

(classes start January 13 and continue through May)

A Year of Blessing (Group Publishing)
Facilitator: Holli Shelton for MOMS (Ministry Of Moms Sharing), meet in room 103
This study for moms helps them find thanks for the good days and the not-so-good days through faith-based discussion on topics that discuss the blessings and challenges of motherhood.

The Circle Maker (by Mark Batterson)
Facilitator: Nancy Stewart, meet in room 112
God is still looking for circle makers who have discovered this timeless truth: God honors bold prayers because bold prayers honor God. Grow in your prayer life by praying circles around your biggest dreams and greatest fears.

Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study (Abingdon)
Facilitator: Dr. Mary Holley, meet in room 104
Class starts at 530pm vs 545pm
Disciple I surveys both the Old and New Testaments including Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, and sections of the historical books including the exile and the return from exile. The New Testament books studied include all of the Gospels, Acts, Romans, Galatians, 1 and 2 Peter, Hebrews and Revelation. Disciple studies provide a strong foundation for understanding the Bible. (Class started in fall 2015.)

Experiencing God’s Dream For Your Marriage (by Chip Ingram)
Facilitator: Marc Scarbrough, meet in room 121
Marriage is a wonderful gift from God and provides an opportunity to share the journey of life with another person. Examine God’s design for marriage as you look at practical instruction to help you make your marriage what God desires it to be.

The Gospel of Matthew (by Max Lucado-from the Life Lessons series)
Facilitators: Chris and Brooke Hemphill, meet in room 102
Matthew’s Gospel—from start to finish—reminds us that Jesus is much more than just a carpenter. He is our King. Explore Matthew with intriguing questions, inspirational storytelling, profound reflections, and journaling opportunities.

John: The Gospel of Life and Light
Facilitator: Pastor Steve West, meet in room 117
Explore the book of John, embracing themes and theology unique to this gospel. The class will be loosely based on Adam Hamilton’s new book by the same title with a simple, discussion based class rooted in Pastor Steve’s journey with John.

Loops of Love
Facilitator: Joy Privett, meet in room 118
Be a part of this group that gathers to crochet and/or knit items such as prayer shawls and chemo caps as tangible expressions of prayer and love for those in need of support and encouragement. Instruction is provided to the beginner as well as the experienced as need arises.

New Younger Adult Sunday School Opportunity

Love and Respect (by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs)
Facilitators: Josh and Mary Shumate, meet in room 117
This study explores the direct connection between the emotional needs of men and women and the Bible. By examining and adhering to specific verses in the Bible, relationships can be strengthened and transformed. Both couples and individuals are welcome to join!
