2015 – A Year of Prayer – Struggling Parents

Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday between services (9:00 – 9:15am) and (10:30-10:45am)

Anointing Offered today- Anointing may be a tradition you have not experienced, and prayers for healing might be something you associate with physical ailment. The United Methodist Book of Worship has a section on anointing and healing prayer that helps clarify that in Christian faith, healing is not necessarily the same as curing. There are all sorts of healing God makes available to us … spiritual, emotional, financial, and relational healing. The Bible affirms the call to pray: “Are any among you sick? They should call the elders of the church and have them pray for them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.” (James 5:14)

God can make us whole again. The ministry of healing prayer opens us to the grace of God. Prayers for healing aren’t about magical cures. Rather they “provide an atmosphere in which healing can happen.” (Book of Worship) The ritual of healing prayer in our tradition does not embarrass or expose people. It is entirely optional. United Methodist services use a simple sacramental approach that expresses compassion, hope, grace, and a quiet confidence in God..

Church-wide Mission Trip meeting Tonight – We have supported the Eugemot orphanage in Ghana, Africa since 2006 and this year Arab First United Methodist is sending a mission team from our church. This life changing trip will be December 27, 2015 thru January 4, 2016, but plans must be made early due to the need for passport, visas, and immunizations. Anyone who is interested in going on this trip, or would like to know more about it in order to offer support, is invited to an informational meeting tonight at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. There is a place for everyone to serve through your prayers, your financial support, or actual travel to
Africa. We would like at least ten adults to go, and we will help you with resources to raise donations for the cost. Pastor Steve will be going and would love you to come, too. For more information please contact mission team leaders, Joy at, Dawn Liebner at, or trip coordinators Lois and Brian O’Dell at

How can you help with Camp Discovery VBS 2015? We need a Bible Challenge Leader who is comfortable leading hands on and musical activities, registration volunteers, people who would be willing to wash the supper cooking dishes, numerous youth and adult volunteers who would be willing to walk each group from one event to the next and people to decorate (an email will be sent out about decorating times). If you can help in any of these areas please contact Jennifer Arrington at or 256-550-0633.

Summer Sunday School Classes – During the summer we like to give our routine Sunday School teachers a break. Ms. Jennifer will be teaching the 1st & 2nd grade class each Sunday. However, on July 19 and 26 subs are needed for 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School class and Children’s Church. If you can fill in, let Ms. Jennifer know. All children in 3rd-5th grade will meet with Mr. Randy during the summer. Your child may go ahead and move to the next class for the grade he/she is entering now or wait until August. Those who could start kindergarten in the fall are with Mrs. Heather Tallent. Those who are entering 1st & 2nd grade are with Ms. Jennifer. All children who are age three through those not eligible to start kindergarten this fall are still in Sunday School upstairs. Please remember that nursery is for children three years and younger for all church events.

“Welcome Home” Dinner for Missionary Jennifer Saunders – Everyone is invited to a dinner in honor of our missionary from our church, who has returned from Kenya and is awaiting a new assignment by the Mission Society. Come and hear from Jennifer about the endeavors we have been supporting! The pot-luck dinner sponsored by the Home Team is on Sunday, July 19, at 6:00 PM. Just bring a dish.

Thank You -Thank you so much for our “Senior Sunday”. Y’all made me feel very special. I will carry Pastor Steve’s words of wisdom with me on my journey. Thank you also for the coffee cup and blanket. I will put both to good use! Love Abigail Isom

Church Contracts on Property – The Church Council approved a proposal from the Trustees to purchase the vacant lot on Main Street next to the Youth House. We have contracted with the seller, who has agreed to sell it to the church once they have closed on the adjacent home with another buyer. The cost of the lot was reduced to $21,000 plus half of the closing costs. If you would like to make a donation toward this opportunity we have to invest in the future, please mark your check for “Property Purchase.”
