2015 – A Year of Prayer
Prayer focus: Families dealing with Abortion

Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday morning between services (9:00 – 9:15 and 10:30 – 10:45).

Pastor Steve Begins School – During the next three weeks, Pastor Steve will be at Sewanee beginning his doctoral program. However, he will be at church on Sundays and on some Wednesday nights. He is available by phone between classes for urgent pastoral care needs, and if there is an emergency, he would be able to drive home in late afternoon from Winchester, Tennessee.

A Church Family picnic and swim party to kick off the summer will be on June 3rd at Arab City Park! This event is for the entire church family. Please bring your lawn chair, a side dish, or homemade ice cream to go with hamburger and hot dogs.

The Emmaus Cluster meeting will be Tuesday, June 9th, at 6:30 pm, at Union Chapel UMC with Oleander UMC co-hosting.

Refuel will start Wednesday, June 10th, in the fellowship hall with “A bead and Prayer”. This event is casual attire and geared toward family. Each week will feature different activities everyone can join in and share the love of Jesus with others. Meal will start at 6:00 pm. (Donation will be accepted).

Youth Mission Trips – The first is Camp Sumatanga from June 10-12. Youth Mission Camp will be a great experience. Luke 6:32 says: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” During Youth Mission Camp we will have a chance to help others by helping Sumatanga through work projects around the camp. Participants for Youth Mission Camp need not be highly skilled; just have a servant’s heart. Other activities will include recreation, swimming, Bible study and praise and worship. The second is a mission trip to help the Wesley Fellowships at The University of Alabama, UNA, BSC, and ASU. We will be working on their buildings and showing our youth that there are Christian groups on college campuses.
Ministry Opportunity – We have a member with disability that would like to attend church on occasion. If you would be willing to provide him transportation to and from church, please let the church office know.

Communion Fund – The funds that our pastor has for confidential, discretionary needs are getting low. Please consider bringing a small gift to the communion rail each month when we receive communion, or you can make a donation anytime and mark it for “Communion Fund.”

Church-wide Mission Trip – Our church offers many opportunities to serve in both local and foreign missions. We have supported Mama Eugenia and Eugemot orphanage in Ghana, Africa since 2006 and this year Arab First United Methodist is sending a mission team from our church. This life changing trip will be December 27, 2015 thru January 4, 2016, but plans must be made early due to the need for passport, visas, and immunizations. Anyone who is interested in going on this trip, or would like to know more about it in order to offer support from the United States, is invited to an informational meeting on Sunday, June 28th at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. There is a place for everyone to serve through your prayers, your financial support, or actual travel to Africa. We would like at least ten adults to go, and we will help you with resources to raise donations for the cost of your travel. Pastor Steve will be going to Ghana with us and would love you to come, too. We will be building a chicken house and barn for the orphanage. You will be hearing more about this event. For more information please contact mission team leaders, Joy Privett or Dawn Liebner at, or trip coordinators Lois and Brian O’Dell at

Camp Discovery VBS 2015 will be July 6-10 from 5:30-8:30. There will be a supper for those helping with and attending VBS each night from 5:00-5:20. We need LOTS of volunteers. Examples of the volunteers we still need are: Snack Leader, Bible Challenge Leader, Preschool Leaders, and Guides for all age groups and extra helpers for Preschool. If you would like to help, please email Jennifer at VBS is for children who are 3 years old through those entering 5th grade. If you have a 2 year old that you would like to bring, you can do so only if a parent or adult stays with them and helps them with the activities. All other older youth may assist with activities as well.
