2015 – A Year of Prayer
This week’s prayer focus: Healthy Marriages in our Community

Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday morning between services (9:00 – 9:15 and 10:30 – 10:45).

Wednesday Night Meal at 5:00 pm
Cost $5 adults, and $3 for children
February 4th Chicken fingers, green beans, and mac & cheese.

Souper Bowl Sunday is today. The youth are leading us in this annual world-wide food drive. We would like to collect at least one can of soup and one dollar from all church attendees to be given to TESA. Following the 9:30 am service, the youth will be serving soup, cornbread/crackers, and desserts and drinks in the Fellowship Hall for $5. Additional donations are gladly accepted. You may dine-in or take-out.

The United Methodist Women’s Unit Meeting is Monday, February 2nd, 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Arab City Schools and Arab Mother’s Club invite you to join us for Rachel’s Challenge, a free community event, Tuesday, February 3rd at 6:00 pm in the High School Auditorium.

The Jennifer Saunders Home Team presents the Second Annual Valentine Gala on Saturday, February 7th, at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. This is fun for the whole family or just that special someone. There will be live music, entertainment, portrait studio, silent auction, and a four course dinner. The Master of Ceremonies will be Randy Tucker, and music will be provided by Jimmy Reeves. Make your reservations early, for space is limited. Tickets in advance are $20 each or two for $35. At the door they are $25 each. Tickets are available at the church office or at Parkway Flooring. If you have something you would like to donate for the silent auction or want to help with this event in any way, please contact Patty Saunders at 256-200-6186.

All Girl and Boy Scouts are invited to participate in Scout Sunday, February 8th, during the 9:30 and 10:55 services. This would be a great time to invite your Scout friends to church. We ask each Scout to wear their uniform.

Please write a Lenten Devotional for our self-published Lenten Devotional Book. A signup sheet is on the table in the gathering area along with a sheet of instructions. Devotionals are due February 9th.

A New Tuesday Morning Study with Pastor Steve West will begin Tuesday, February 17, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in room 112 in the lower level of the church. We will study the book The Way of Grace: Finding God on the Path of Surrender by Glandian Carney (with Marjean Brooks). This is a six week Lenten study (seven weeks including the introduction class on February 17) written by a good clergy friend of Pastor Steve.

Citywide Lenten Services will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 18th, at 12:00 noon and will conclude by 1:00 pm. Lunch and a brief worship service will be conducted in Arab area churches. Watch the newsletter for a schedule.

The Young in Heart will meet February 19, at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Sandy West will be the speaker and an Italian meal will be served. All 55+ are invited to “get to know Sandy”. Reservations can be made at the Hospitality Desk.

The Men’s Chili/Soup Cook-off is February 22nd at 6:00 pm. Bring your favorite chili or soup to share at a fellowship supper. Prizes will be awarded for the best chili and best soup. Those not wanting to participate in the cook-off can help by bringing cornbread, crackers, and desserts. Join us for this night of good food and Christ-like fellowship.

During this first month of 2015 David’s Prayer Shawl ministry has given 22 prayer shawls. Last week, money donated to this ministry was used to buy 60 skeins of yard. Depending on the pattern used this yarn will make 12 to 15 shawls.

Arab First United Methodist Church will be hosting a Women’s Conference is aptly named “Walking In Faith – Transforming Your Life”. The Friday session (February 27th) will start registration at 5:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Saturday program (February 28th) will begin at 9:00 a.m. and wrap up about 2:00 p.m. You can register on the church’s website; for more information contact Nancy Stewart. A full weekend of accomplished Christian speakers and musicians that promise to lift your spirit, as well as a Christian “marketplace” featuring specialty artists! Some of the speakers are Sandy West, Patti Foster, and Kelly Mayo.
