Connecting Points
 
for Weeks of Sunday August 29th and September 5th, 2010 
 
 
 Young In Heart 
All 50+ are invited to meet Sept. 9th at 5:00 pm
for a picnic at the Pine Lake Swimming Pool Pavilion,
hosted by George and Annie Pollock.
Directions and a sign up sheet are at the Hospitality table. I
ndicate what you will bring to go with Boston butts that George will cook.
Bring folding chairs and join the fun with friends after a long hot summer.
 
Children's Wednesday Night Classes
Children's classes will be known as Faith Weaver Friends this new school year.
 Classes begin Wednesday Sept 8 from 5:45-7:00pm. 
Faith Weaver Friends are:  Preschool=Ms. Gayla Shedd, K-1st=Mrs. Susan Taffar and Mrs. Abbie Thomas,
2nd-3rd Grade=Mrs. Mary Shumate, and 4th-6th Grade=Mr. Randy Heidt.
 
Children's Sunday School Classes
 We are working on a Sunday School class during the 10:55 hour for those children
 who attend the 9:30 worship service.  If you have a child that would be attending this Sunday School class,
please call the office with their name or email Ms. Jennifer at jarrington@blountboe.net
Also, anyone who would be interested in leading, please let me know. 
We will need someone to commit from September through December.
 
ServeFest
Come serve your community by handing out waters for the “Knightfest” at Arab City Park on September 11th;
see Belinda Kilgore to volunteer. Our youth are sponsoring a movie called
“To Save a Life” on Saturday night at 7pm at the old Community Center. On Sunday, a stroll through
the first cemetery of Arab will begin at 2pm. (Methodist Cemetery). 
Show God’s love as we celebrate Arab!
 
Max Lucado’s book Facing Your Giant
If you would like a copy they are in the office.  Suggested donation of $15.
Pastor Kenny Baskins is using this book in his current sermon series.
 
Adult Choir Practice
 Practice is each Wednesday evening at 7pm. 
There is a spot for you as we begin to work on Christmas music.
In other words, we need more people to sing.
Christmas Cantata Rehearsal will begin on September 8th at 7:00 p.m.
and we will work cantata music at the beginning of rehearsal.
 
Boys' Scout and Girls' Scout Sign-up
  The Boy Scout Troop 60 and Girl Scout Troop 738 
chartered by the Arab First United Methodist Church
will host a recruitment evening on Tuesday, September 7th  at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.
Boys entering the sixth grade (or age 11) are invited to join Troop 60. 
Boys meet weekly in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesdays at 6:30pm. 
Girls entering the first grade are invited to join Troop 738.  
Girls meet twice a month on Tuesdays at 6:30pm.
 
Communion 
Come and go Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel
 each Sunday from 9-9:15am and 10:30-10:45am except on the first Sunday,
when it is served during the services.
