Greeter and Usher Training Today!
Training for the new expanded hospitality ministry is scheduled for today, Sunday, August 13th at 12:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. We need your help! Do you have a willingness to smile, be friendly to others, and get involved on Sunday morning? This ministry requires a commitment of only one Sunday a month and we’re revamping this area for our church. A welcoming, loving church is part of the foundation of a healthy church and it needs members like YOU! This is also a great ministry for families to do together!
Wednesday Night Menu & O’Cannenbaum Food Collection! –Our menu for Wednesday will be a “Slim budget” menu of hot dogs, mac and cheese, and baked beans. For our first Fall Wednesday night, make sure to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food items. There will be no charge for the supper but, a collection of monetary and food donations will be taken to help replenish the food bank at TESA. And to make the collection more exciting, we will attempt to build a Christmas tree of cans! Do you know that 600 to 800 canned goods can build a five foot Christmas tree? Bring your cans (and yourselves) and join us this Wednesday, August 16, at 5:00.
Wednesday Night Dinner Meal Tickets – Meal tickets will be available again this year. You can purchase them in the office or on Wednesday nights in the kitchen. This year we will offer 20 adult meals for $110.00, 10 adult meals for $60.00 and 10 child meals for $40.00. Once you purchase your ticket, we date it and keep it in the kitchen for you. When you come through the line for dinner, just let Terry Z. know how many people are eating, so she can mark them off. This makes dinner more convenient for you instead of keeping up with cash and checks. Thank you and we look forward to a great year!
JAAM Information – JAAM (Jesus, Arts, and Me) begins this Wednesday, August 16 at 3:00 p.m. for the 2017-2018 year. Registrations forms are located in the office, on the sign-up table and outside the Children’s Director Office.

Examples are lifesavers, caramels, lollipops, laffy taffy, gum, Hershey kisses, smarties, and tootsie rolls. You can drop off donations in the church office. Just let Jessica know it is for JAAM.
New Thursday Ladies Bible Study Class – As women of faith, pursuing Godliness should be right at the top of our list of things to accomplish each and every day. But, sadly, life sometimes gets in the way and our efforts in this pursuit fall far short of the target! Best selling author, Elizabeth George, helps us rediscover our ability to put God first in her book “Pursuing Godliness a Study of 1 Timothy”. Beginning Thursday, August 17th, Nancy Stewart will lead this informative study every Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Room 102. Please join us for food, fun, lively discussion and Christian fellowship as we discover all this study has to offer.
Youth Parent Meeting – There will be a Youth Parent Meeting, Sunday, August, 20th at 4:30 p.m. in the youth house.
Threat Awareness Workshop, August 20! – Steve Skeen, one of our church members, is a well-known workshop leader for churches and other organizations in threat awareness. What would we do here if there were a fire? A tornado? An active shooter situation? Everyone is invited to this 2-hour workshop. It is especially helpful for staff, greeters, ushers, Sunday School teachers, etc. but everyone can benefit. This workshop is free (he usually does this for a fee) and is on Sunday, August 20, at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Jeffrey Liebner Scholarship – Our Church Council announces the establishment of a new scholarship prompted by an initial donor. As with all the scholarships we offer annually under the direction of our Scholarship Committee, anyone may make a donation to the Jeffrey Liebner Scholarship Fund to help build up the principal. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to a deserving high school senior or existing college student who has been an active participant at Arab First UMC in service and missions, is continuing their secondary education, and demonstrates financial need. This is a wonderful way to honor the life of a man who had a heart for missions. The congregation is invited to make donations.
