Connecting Points – July 9, 2017

Connecting Points for Sunday, July 9

Random Act of Kindness Cards – Pick up a card every week from a display in our gathering areas. Use it to share the love of Christ in a surprising, creative, and unexpected way!

Need Prayer? – If you would like our local prayer team to be in prayer for a concern, contact us by one of three ways – fill out the Prayer Request card found in each pew, call the church office, or enter your request on the AFUMC website. The phone number for the Upper Room Prayer Line is 1-800-251-2468. This line is staffed 24/7 so you can pray with someone any time of day.

Volunteer to be a Greeter or Usher – Would you like visitors and new members to think “That’s such a friendly church!” when they leave our Sunday services? Would you like to be a part of welcoming others to our church? Do you have a willingness to smile, be friendly to others, and get involved on a Sunday morning? Then we would love for you to become one of our Greeters or Ushers! This ministry requires a commitment of only one Sunday a month and we’re revamping this area for our church. A welcoming, loving church is part of the foundation of a healthy church and it needs members like YOU!! This is also a great ministry for families to do together! If you’re willing to serve as a Greeter or Usher one Sunday a month, please see Leslie Smith, Cynthia Traylor, Jami Russell, or let the church office know. We plan on having a short training session in August for those involved, so please plan on volunteering soon. You wouldn’t want to miss out on this special ministry area of our Lord’s church.

VBS Next Week!  – If you haven’t already registered your child, you may fill out a registration form (located in the Church office, outside Ms. Heather’s office, or online at http://cokesburyvbs.com/arabumc.

VBS Donation Board – Please take a moment to pick a “window” off the VBS donation board located by the Hospitality Desk. Purchase the item and return it to the bin.  Thank you in advance!

VBS Work Session – The next and final VBS work session will be Wednesday, July 12, at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

VBS Crew Leaders Needed – At this time, we are in need of at least 10 more crew leaders – for PreK as well as elementary. If you could help fill this need, Ms. Heather would greatly appreciate it! **Must be Safe Sanctuary trained**

Last Day to Order T-Shirts/Dinner – Today, July 9 is the last day to order/pay for VBS t-shirts and make reservations for the nightly meals. Please make checks payable to AFUMC and on the memo line note “VBS Shirt”. The forms are available in the office, outside the sanctuary, and downstairs by the Children’s Department bulletin board.

VBS Leader Training – There will be Crew Leader and Station Leader training on Wednesday, July 12, in the Fellowship Hall.  Crew Leaders will meet 6:30 – 7 and Station Leaders will meet 7-7:30.  If you are volunteering in either of these roles, please plan on attending.

ServeFest for the Arab High School Band! ServeFest is a special ministry of Arab First UMC to share “Random Acts of Kindness” as a church. Our next ServeFest event will be to share the love of Christ through a meal for band students during Arab High School band camp. We are coordinating this with “The Well” youth group and Coach David Hall. The meal will be pizza and desserts on Monday, July 21, and volunteers would need to be there at 5:00.
