Sunday School Teacher Needed – We currently need a teacher for the 4yr/5yr/Pre-K Sunday School class for 4th and 5th Sundays. If you would be willing to serve in this capacity, please contact Heather Tallent. All materials are provided.
New Sunday School Study! – On May 7th the FAMILY Sunday School class will begin a new study. Seamless by Angie Smith is a 7 session study geared to help us better understand the Bible as one complete story…sixty-six books connected as one beautiful, seamless thread. The FAMILY class meets at 9:30 am in room #117 and is facilitated by Josh and Mary Shumate.
Nicky James Appointed as Our Associate Pastor – Our prayers and appreciation go to Roy and Kathy Bryant as he retires from ministry to focus on his health. Roy will serve as our associate pastor until the end of June. We are happy that Rev. Nicky James has been appointed as our new associate pastor. Nicky and Lynn are the parents of our former ministry intern Ben James, and for the past five years he has been serving as part-time local pastor of Bethel UMC in Eva. His first Sunday with us will be July 2. Welcome, Nicky and Lynn!
Site Development Proposal – The Building Committee’s proposed site development plan is on display in the gathering area for review and discussion. We are considering three future phases, but can build the first two in either order, with the third phase being a family life center. The following are our options for the first phase:
The first option is the two story building, which would house nursery, preschool, and children on the top floor and youth on the bottom. This would create new adult classes and a choir suite in former children’s areas. The second more fiscally conservative option is the one-floor building for youth, adjacent to a future multi-purpose center (built later). The children and choir would not move at this time.
Either option includes the open, central lobby and the portico.
No decisions will be made at this time. The priority of the church is to pay off the debt before embarking on new construction.
Please keep this lifted up for prayer, discussion, and discernment.
The supper menu for Wednesday Night – The supper menu for Wednesday, April 26th is beef stroganoff, green beans, salad, rolls
hot dogs, and desserts.
ACTIVATE Conference – Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 29 for a mission conference to be held here at AFUMC. Sponsored by The Mission Society Global, you will discover how you are uniquely called to reach your community and your world. Empowered by strong Biblical foundations and principles, you will discover new opportunities to GO on mission with God and how you can be activated to reach out to others. Not only will you as an individual be activated, but our church family as a whole can impact the world as we work together to reach others. This event is free and will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on April 29. Lunch will be provided. To help plan for lunch and materials, please RSVP by calling the church office at 256-586-5792.
JAAM Kids Program on April 30th – Have you heard of Francis of Assisi, John Newton, Edward Perronet, Augustus Toplady, Fanny Crosby or Anna Warner? They are famous hymn writers and fascinating personalities. Our JAAM children will share a bit about these great people and the great hymns they wrote on April 30th at 5:00 pm.
