Building and Debt Update:
1) Last Week’s Presentation – Thanks to everyone who came to the update by the Building Committee. A possible site development plan (with 3 future building options) was presented for further discussion during the coming months. We will make pictures available soon in the gathering area to continue the conversations.
2) Remaining Debt – Our remaining debt now stands at about $148,000. We have $78,000 available on hand in the Building Fund, which means we are lacking about $70,000 before we are able to “burn the note.” Thank you for your generous giving!
3) Youth Building – Thank you for your patience as our Trustees work with our City Council over permission for temporary space for our expanding youth ministries. The matter is being resolved as soon as possible. Please speak to Nathan Clark if you have questions.
Lee Michael Accepts Position at Florence First UMC – We are very sad to see him go, but we are proud of Lee Michael for his new position at Florence First UMC with Rev. Robert Sparkman. He will be “going home,” close to his aging mother in Muscle Shoals, and he and his family will have the added benefit of living in a church parsonage. His last day on duty will be March 20, and the youth parents are organizing a gathering to send him off on Sunday night, March 26.
Community Lenten Services – The Arab Ministerial Association is once again sponsoring community Lenten lunches! We meet on the Wednesdays of Lent. The brief services will begin at noon and lunch will be served at about 12:30 pm. Come take your lunch hour to share with other Christians of Arab!

At the conclusion, there will be an Easter Sunrise Service at New Brashiers United Methodist with Scott Campbell preaching at 6:15 am.
The supper menu for Wednesday Night – Let’s celebrate Dr. Seuss and St. Patty’s Day! March 15th dinner will be green eggs and ham, corn beef hash, smoked sausage, biscuits and gravy, and desserts.
Lenten Studies – Lent is a time to contemplate what our Lord and Savior did for each and every one of us when he endured crucifixion and death on the cross for our sins. But as people of faith, we know the story did not end there as we look ahead to the celebration of Jesus resurrection on Easter Sunday, April 16th. Take part in one of four Lenten studies being offered this year at AFUMC. From exploring Jesus’ Final Words From The Cross (a Adam Hamilton study led by Myles Teston on Wednesday nights which started on March 8 at 6:00 pm) to Preparing My Heart For Easter (a 10:00 am Thursday morning woman’s study which started March 5th), there is a Lenten study and meeting time for everyone. Lenten studies will also be offered on Sunday mornings at 9:30am (Randy Tucker leading The Path to the Cross) and 10:55am (Chris Hemphill leading Creed.)
Circle #2 Meeting – Circle #2 will meet on March 13th at 10:00am in the fellowship hall.
Young -In-Heart – Young-In-Heart, the Senior Adult Ministry of AFUMC will have its next meeting on Thursday March 16th. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall at 10:30 to renew acquaintances and welcome guests and newcomers. Our 11 o’clock program will feature Ms. Jean-Ann Moon of Marshall County’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (MCRSVP). She will introduce the current programs and opportunities for senior learners and volunteers as well as updating us of RSVP’s new capital building program. Our singalong will feature Irish favorites/songs led by Wayne Kendrick. Our annual Saint Patrick’s Day lunch (11:30) will feature corned beef and cabbage by our own Terry Z. Donation for lunch is $3 per person. Please sign up at the YIH table in the Narthex. Bring a favorite dessert or salad to share for lunch.
Watoto Children’s Choir – April 7th – We are pleased to announce that the Watoto Children’s Choir will be here in concert on April 7th at 7:00 pm. The Watoto Choir members are orphans and vulnerable children from the Watoto Church in Uganda. Their new production is Signs & Wonders. The children, through worship, dance and their stories of hope, will share how their lives have been changed and how through Christ, they have been called into a life of purpose. We host these children and the Aunties/Uncles in our church homes Friday night, providing them breakfast the next morning and a sack lunch. If you would like to serve as a host home, please contact Debby at 256-797-4648 or the church office.
Safe Sanctuary Background Check Money – If you haven’t turned in the $12 fee for your safe sanctuary background check, please turn it in to the church office as soon as possible.
Operation Christmas Child – It’s not too early. Please notice the Operation Christmas Child Collection boxes near our church entrances. This month, March, we are asking members to focus on bringing small toys, e.g., little bags of Legos, Barbie dolls, small nerf balls, matchbox cars, small stuffed animals, etc. We will be collecting different items each month, then scheduling a church packing party in early November. Just drop your donations in the boxes.
Baby Bottle Boomerang – Through the Real Life Pregnancy Center here in Marshall County, you have the opportunity to support moms, their babies’ needs and the medical clinic. Simply pick up a baby bottle located in baskets by the church office entrance and in the narthex (hallway outside the sanctuary by the tower entrance) and fill the bottle with coins, cash, or checks made to Real Life Pregnancy Center. Then return the filled bottles to the church office. For more information call 878-1300 or 486-2090.
