Christmas Cantata Today and December 19th – The chancel choir and orchestra present “Invitation to a Miracle” both today at 10:55am and tomorrow night. Bring friends and family and share the joy of the season.
Christmas Weekend Schedule – Saturday, December 24th at 4:00pm and 7:00pm will be our Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion Services. Sunday, December 25th at 10:00am will be our Christmas Day joint worship service (no 8:00, 9:30, or 10:55 service and no Sunday School)
Flower Calendar for 2017 – Please get in touch with the church office to reserve Sundays on the altar flower calendar for 2017. Fresh flowers bless our worship life and are a wonderful way to do something in honor or memory of someone special. Here are the details: There are two arrangements each Sunday (you may reserve one or both). The first one to reserve an arrangement for a Sunday chooses the florist for that Sunday. Buddy’s Flowers provides a standard, classic arrangement, and costs $35 per arrangement. Scott’s Urban Earth can provide a standard $35 arrangement or coordinate with you to provide a custom-designed arrangement.
Announcing Youth Space Expansion – Last week, Arab City Council approved the plan of our Church Council to attach a portable classroom to the back of our Youth House. This is a temporary measure to accommodate our growth in youth ministries while we finish paying off debt and begin plans for a future building. The cost for the used portable classroom was a discounted price. When the building is resold after temporary use, the proceeds will go back into the Building Fund. The classroom will be in place after the first of the year. Landscaping will be added to shield it from view.
Wednesday Night Dinners Grow! – This past couple of years,
Wednesday night dinners have consistently grown in meal quality and attendance. We have about 125 people each week enjoying an excellent meal due to the fine efforts of our kitchen manager, Terry Z., and her gang. Our Finance Team has increased the suggested donation to $7 for adults and $5 for children. This begins in January, in order to keep the quality strong.
Volunteers Needed for Room in the Inn on Christmas Night – We need some extra help when Arab First UMC hosts “Room in the Inn” on Christmas Night, Dec. 25. Please let John Richey know if you are willing to make Christmas bright for neighbors who are less fortunate (256-931-6088). We need help with bringing sandwiches, breakfast the next day, and transportation the next morning. (Our Ghana mission team leaves the next morning, so many of our regular volunteers are unavailable.)
ServeFest on Christmas Eve – We will be delivering donuts on Christmas Eve Day to businesses that stay open for our community on Christmas Eve. It is our way of saying “Thank You” for the service they provide. We are very blessed that our church family is so willing to serve our community in this way. If you are interested, please contact the church office email@example.com or 586-5792 or Terry Zakrzewski at 256-486-5183.
Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday morning between services (9:00 – 9:15) and (10:30 – 10:45).
Church Office Holiday Closing Dates – The Church Office will be closed December 22nd, 23rd, and 26th for the Christmas Holiday and will also be closed January 2nd in observance of New Year’s Day.
End of Year Giving – Have you gotten behind in your giving? During this season of good will, it’s the perfect time to get caught up on your giving to the General Fund before the end of 2016. We have a number of year-end missions, ministries, and expenses and we need your support. Please give generously before the end of 2016.
Please Respect Our Sound Equipment – There have been a few occasions when sound equipment knobs (either on stage or at the sound booth) have been adjusted or turned off by those other than sound personnel. This can cause problems for worship flowing smoothly. Please help us out by keeping wandering hands away from any knobs or sound equipment. Thanks!
Office Sitters Needed – The Church Office is in need of office sitters to answer the phone during services and provide directions/help if needed. Please consider volunteering one Sunday a month during a service time which you don’t attend. This is such an important service to our church. Please contact the church office if you’d like to be added to the list of volunteers.
Advent Coffee Hour with the Pastor – Our last meeting is in the fellowship hall on Tuesday, December 20th at 4:00 to study “ADVENT[ure] – A Journey through the Christmas Story” created by the North Alabama Conference Discipleship Team. There is no preparation. Pastor Steve will lead us in an opening activity, a video segment from one of our conference’s clergy women, a spiritual practice, and a grace moment as we explore the Magi finding the Messiah. Anybody can come!
