Connecting Points January 24, 2016

Communion is served in the Prayer Chapel each Sunday morning between services (9:00 – 9:15) and (10:30 – 10:45).

The Wednesday Night meal starts at 5:00 pm. The requested donation for the meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children. January 27th the meal is meatloaf, baked potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, rolls, and dessert.

The Second WOLF Men’s Conference is scheduled for January 30th at Arab First Baptist Church. Former Alabama running back Bobby Humphrey, Gary Zelesky, Lonnie Lundy, and Andrew Fortner will be one of the featured speakers. The conference, which will start at 1 p.m. and end at 5 p.m., is designed to reach men of all ages but especially teenage boys as they begin to make life choices that will affect them for the rest of their lives.

Ghana Mission Presentation and Fellowship Potluck Supper – The Ghana mission team will be sharing about their recent mission trip to Ghana, Africa and Eugemot Orphanage on Sunday, January 31st. Come for supper at 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall; please bring a dish to share if you are able for this potluck meal. A program will be held at 6:00 pm in the sanctuary.

Circle 6 is collecting Wal-Mart cards during the month of January. Any amount is fine, and people can also donate cash. All cards/monies are going to the “Transitions Class” at Arab High School to help with the expenses of the class’s Life Skills lessons. The students cook once a week, and also do 2 fund raiser meals for the faculty during the year. All groceries are bought at Wal-Mart.

Piano Refurbishing – Have you noticed our piano is missing? Our church is blessed to have a very nice Steinway grand piano that has lasted for many decades. Through a generous anonymous donation, we are happy to say that our piano is being rebuilt and refurbished. For a few weeks, we will be using a keyboard while it is visiting the shop for its restoration.
The January book for the Christian Book Club is “Chasing Sunsets” by Christian novelist Karen Kingsbury. Copies of the book are available in the office for a donation of $9. The discussion meeting for it will be February 2nd at noon in the Sisters in Christ classroom.

Bag and Book Drives – Joy Circle is sponsoring several collections and you can help! New and used backpack and book bags are being collected for Arab Junior High School students needing these items. New and used paperback books are also being collected to support the book drive that Deborah West is involved with to obtain one paperback book for each of the 1400 inmates at Donaldson Prison in the Bessemer area.

Please leave all donations with Dawn Liebner (office in the conference room across from the church office.) Church-wide collection of these items will end on Sunday, February 7.

Everyone is invited to our Ash Wednesday Services, February 10th, at 6:00 pm. Start the Lenten season with this special time of receiving ashes on the forehead as a sign of our mortality and need for God. This years’ service features music and prayer from the Taize’ tradition.

Children’s Parent Survey has been email out to parents. If you have not yet completed that survey, please take 5 minutes to do so. If you did not receive a survey, and you have children aged 3 years to 5th grade, please email Ms. Jennifer at jarrington@blountboe.net. This survey is totally anonymous and will help us evaluate the effectiveness of our Children’s Programs.
