Connecting Points October 11, 2015

Welcome Rev. Mel Jacobs! Our guest preacher this morning is Mel Jacobs. He recently retired from serving as pastor of 12th Avenue Church of God, right next door to us at Arab First UMC. Pastors Steve and Roy have enjoyed getting to know him as part of the Arab Ministerial Association. Thanks, Pastor Mel, for sharing the Word with us while Pastor Steve is on his mission trip to Singapore with the Upper Room! Welcome!

If there is a pastoral care need this week, please notify the church office. Pastors Roy and Steve are both away this week. However, we have folks that would be glad to visit the hospital to pray, and Pastor Steve has asked the office to keep him aware of needs by text and email. He has also asked Rev. Mike Shirley, pastor of New Brashier’s UMC and former associate pastor of our church, to be available if needed.

Directories have arrived – Our new church pictorial directories have arrived! If your family had your picture taken for the directory, you receive a complimentary copy. Please pick yours up today in the church office. They are marked with your family name.

Kitchen Manager Update-We have been enjoying Wednesday nights at Arab First UMC with all of the new adult class options and with our exciting new children’s worship arts program! We are especially thankful to have Terry Zakrzewski (“Terry Z”) as our new kitchen manager this Fall. She is preparing Wednesday night meals and keeping the kitchen clean and organized, and we appreciate her so much! Please share ideas and requests with her and volunteer to help.

New Bereavement Meal Protocol-Now that we have a new Kitchen Manager on board, it is a good opportunity to streamline communications to support ministries for those who are grieving – Healing Hearts (meals hosted at the church for funerals) and Care and Concerns (food or other expressions extended to the home). When our pastor responds, he will find out whether the family would like something at the church or something for the home. Then he or the church office will contact Terry Z and this will initiate our process. She will then make sure an expression of care is organized and implemented. Joy Privett is reorganizing the Care and Concerns Teams, and we would love to have volunteers. For more information
or to volunteer to help, please contact Terry Z or Joy Privett.

Thanks! You made our day! Thank you all so much for the funds for our kitchen remodel. Your congregation is a blessing to us! Staff and shelter clients of Kelley’s Rainbow.
