2015 – A Year of Prayer This week’s prayer focus adoption and orphans
The Wednesday Night meal starts at 5:00 pm. The requested donation for the meal is $5 for adults and $3 for children. On September 30th the meal is Pizza roll-ups, salad, rice, and dessert.
UMM BBQ chicken luncheon is today. We will start serving at 10:30 and wrap up around 1:00. Lunch will include BBQ chicken and two side dishes, dessert and a drink. The cost is $8. We look forward to this annual event and are hoping for a large turn-out. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund, FCA, and Room in the Inn.
Starting today at 6:00 pm (NEW START DATE) – Exploring the Way (by Upper Room Ministries). Pastor Steve will be the facilitator. A prequel to the Companion in Christ foundational resource, this six week experiential study (plus preparatory meeting) provides an excellent introduction to the language of spiritual formation and some basic practices of the Christian spiritual life. (Suggested book donation is $5.)
Please sign cards for the homebound – In the prayer room are handmade cards for some of our congregation who are homebound or struggling. They have been prayed over and will continue to be prayed over this month. Please take some time in the prayer room praying, signing the cards, and perhaps enclosing a note to someone you know and care about.
A Bridal Tea for Ben James and Sarah Thompson will be Friday, October 2nd, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Old Brashiers Chapel UMC Fellowship Hall, given by Arab First UMC and Old Brashiers Chapel UMC. (Ben will be attending this shower, so spouses are invited.)
The UMW Unit Meeting will be Monday, October 5 at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. All women are welcomed.
Our AFUMC UMW Fundraiser is a drawing for an Oil Painting (34”h x 27”w — Framed), “Mystic Poppy” by Karen Matthews, Raffle Tickets are $5.00 each, and Tickets can be purchased from any UMW member. Drawing will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Unit Meeting. All proceeds to benefit UMW Missions.
Jennifer’s Home Team annual yard sale will be October 9th & 10th. Please drop off your donations at the church storage building Saturday mornings 9:30-12:00, or Sunday afternoons 12:00 to 1:00.
The Young-in-Heart will be going to Libby’s for a home cooked meal October 15th. They have daily specials and a large variety of foods. Libby’s is located at 1401 Highway 67 near Priceville
(256-353-9767). We will leave the Church at 10:00 am. Stop off at Somerville to see the old 1837 Courthouse and hear its history given by Mayor Darren Tucker – then on to Libby’s by 11:30. Indicate if you would like to ride in the van. If there is an interest to go there after eating, there is a Veterans Park 1-2 miles on Hwy 67 headed toward Decatur.
