Wisdom of the Spirit in
Arab First United Methodist Church
The Fellowship Hall will be closed this week. The floors are being waxed and we ask that you DO NOT WALK on the floors. The work will start around 1:00 pm on Sunday, so please get everything you need out of the basement area before 1:00 pm.
The Andy Griffith Women’s Summer Bible Study that meets on Tuesday mornings will meet at 10:00am July 14th in the conference room upstairs (not the Fellowship Hall). The contact is Vicki Hestley.
Loops of Love will meet at 6:00 pm July 15th, at the home of Joy Privett (not the Fellowship Hall).
David’s Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting will be Wednesday, July 15th at 10:00 am in the conference room.
“Welcome Home” Dinner for Missionary Jennifer Saunders – Everyone is invited to a dinner in honor of our missionary, who has returned from Kenya and is awaiting a new assignment by the Mission Society. Come and hear from Jennifer about the endeavors we have been supporting! The pot-luck dinner sponsored by the Home Team is on Sunday, July 19th, at 6:00 PM. Just bring a dish.
Ghana Mission Update – The meeting on June 28th was well attended and plans for the Ghana mission trip to the Eugemot Orphanage are moving forward. The next meeting will be July 26th, 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. At that time a down payment toward the trip cost will be needed. Currently we have only 10 slots with no guarantee that we can get more. If you are interested in going, or in supporting those who are going, please email Lois & Brian O’Dell at email@example.com as soon as possible.

Update on Contract for Purchase of Vacant Lot
Last week, we reported that the Church Council approved the purchase of the vacant lot next to the Youth House. The seller had agreed to a contract, contingent on closing on the adjacent home with another buyer. However, this contract was dated and when we requested an extension, the seller declined to extend the contract at this time. We are still pursuing this opportunity and will keep the congregation updated. If you have donated toward the purchase of this vacant lot, we will be glad to hold the funds you have given until the matter is resolved. Please note that the article in the July newsletter does not reflect this update since it happened after print.
The Youth Mission trips this summer were a great success. We had around 40 people to participate in these trips. The first trip was to Sumatanga. We were the first group in the Annual Conference to do this sort of mission work. This bridged a gap between the Conference and local mission work.
The second trip was to the University of Alabama, Birmingham Southern, University of North Alabama, and Athens State. We worked with their Wesley Foundation to get the facility ready for a new school year.
We, the youth of AFUMC, thank you for your support and prayers for our youth program.
