Today’s order of worship is different than usual at 8:00 and 10:55. Beginning in April, on communion Sundays each month Pastor Steve would like to use the “Service of Word and Table” found in the United Methodist Hymnal and Book of Worship. This is the same order we used last month with our hymnals open, after the snow closed the church office for the latter part of the week. Thanks for everyone’s flexibility as we try something new to make communion Sundays really stand out.
Our Communion Offering Funds are getting a bit low. Each month, we are invited to leave a special offering at the altar rails when we come forward for communion. These funds are used for church members needing help and for those who come by the church office requesting assistance. Gifts are given at the discretion of our pastor, with the church secretary using a process that helps us be good stewards. Please consider helping us build up the discretionary funds with a communion offering today.
Young-in-Heart will be held April 16th at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. Brandi Mason, a speaker from the “Home Instead” program for seniors, will speak on “Cooking under Pressure.” Lunch will feature some dishes containing foods that seniors should include in their diets. (We need volunteers to cook the dishes, recipes are available.)
Our Church-Wide Retreat at Sumatanga is on Friday night, April 16. Today is the deadline to register! Join Pastor Steve and retreat leader Keith Elder for this overnight one-night retreat for people of all ages, including your children. You may room with your family, stay with a roommate, or have a private room. See the registration form on the display table in the Gathering Area for more information or for registration.
A new Study begins April 19th in the Thirsty Class. I have trouble with the Bible. It’s hard to read about God doing things like commanding the slaughter of entire cities. It sounds like the opposite of the God that Jesus revealed to us. What about inconsistencies in the Gospels? Are women actually prohibited from speaking in the church? Is there a verse that says slavery is okay? Who actually wrote the Bible… and how do we know it hasn’t been changed through the years? All these are fair questions for Christians to ask. “Making Sense of the Bible”, a study by Adam Hamilton, seeks to clear up some misconceptions and explores the difficult parts of the Scriptures. Join us starting April 19th. We meet every Sunday downstairs after the 9:30 service. Book donation requested is $10. Contact is Myles Teston (firstname.lastname@example.org; 256-200-2188).
The Arab First UMC annual Relay for Life yard sale/car wash will be held on Saturday, April 25th from 8am to 2pm at the Youth House. Donations are gladly accepted for the yard sale

You can also support the Relay and the AFUMC team by purchasing luminaria, torches or sky lanterns in memory, or in honor of someone. The Relay for Life event will be held at the Arab Soccer Fields on Friday, May 8, from 6 pm to 12 midnight.
Calling ALL Young Adults! Please join us on April 26th at 12:00 pm (immediately following the last service) for a luncheon and a meet-and-greet. The ultimate goal of this luncheon is to create a group of young adults that will meet several times throughout the year for fun and fellowship! We would like to plan many different social events for everyone to have the opportunity to attend, kids included! The intention for this luncheon is to brainstorm, share ideas, and plan for these events. We will have child care available for kids of all ages during the planning discussion. For questions or more information, please contact Brooke Hemphill at (256)640-3292 or Dawn Liebner at (256)586-5792.
