The United Methodist Men’s annual chili/vegetable soup luncheon is today. We will start serving at 10:30 and wrap up by around 1:00. Take out will be available after the 8:00 am service. Lunch will include soup/chili, cornbread/crackers, dessert and a drink. The cost is $8. We look forward to this annual event and are hoping for a large turn-out. All proceeds go to the scholarship fund, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, WOLF conference, and Room in the Inn.

Room in the Inn – We host our homeless neighbors on January 31st and February 8th, starting at 5:00 pm. You are invited to come and have a fellowship meal with our neighbors or just spend some time showing God’s love. Please be in prayer for this ministry.

February 1st is Souper Bowl Sunday. The youth will again be participating in this annual world-wide food drive. We would like to collect at least one can of soup and one dollar from all church attendees to be given to TESA. Following the 9:30 am service, the youth will be serving soup, cornbread/crackers, and desserts and drinks in the Fellowship Hall for $5. Additional donations are gladly accepted. You may dine-in or take-out.

The United Methodist Women’s Unit Meeting is Monday, February 2nd, at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Arab City Schools and Arab Mother’s Club invite you to join us for Rachel’s Challenge, a free community event on Tuesday, February 3rd at 6:00 pm in the High School Auditorium.

The Jennifer Saunders Home Team presents the Second Annual Valentine Gala on Saturday, February 7th, at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. This is fun for the whole family or just that special someone. There will be live music, entertainment, portrait studio, silent auction, and a four course dinner. The Master of Ceremonies will be Randy Tucker, and music will be provided by Jimmy Reeves. Make your reservations early, for space is limited. Tickets in advance are $20 each or two for $35. At the door they are $25 each. Tickets are available at the church office or at Parkway Flooring. If you have something you would like to donate for the silent auction or want to help with this event in any way, please contact Patty Saunders at 256-200-6186.

Please write a Lenten Devotional for our self-published Lenten Devotional Book. A signup sheet is on the table in the gathering area along with a sheet of instructions. Devotionals are due February 9th.

A New Tuesday Morning Study with Pastor Steve West will begin Tuesday, February 17, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am in room 112 in the lower level of the church. We will study the book The Way of Grace: Finding God on the Path of Surrender by Glandian Carney (with Marjean Brooks). This is a six week Lent study (seven weeks including the introduction class on February 17) written by a good clergy friend of Pastor Steve.

Citywide Lenten Services will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 18th, at 12:00 noon and will conclude by 1:00 pm. Lunch and a brief worship service will be conducted in Arab area churches. Watch the newsletter for a schedule.

The Men’s Chili/Soup Cook-off is February 22nd at 6:00 pm. Bring your favorite chili or soup to share at a fellowship supper. Prizes will be awarded for the best chili and best soup. Those not wanting to participate in the cook-off can help by bringing cornbread, crackers, and desserts. Join us for this night of good food and Christ-like fellowship.

Ladies mark your calendar… A very special spiritually charged weekend has been planned just for you! Arab First United Methodist Church will be hosting a full weekend of accomplished Christian speakers and musicians that promise to lift your spirit, as well as a Christian “marketplace” featuring specialty artists! Mark your calendar now for Friday, February 27, and Saturday, February 28th. The weekend conference is aptly named “Walking In Faith – Transforming Your Life”. Some of the speakers are Sandy West, Patti Foster, and Kelly Mayo. The Friday session will start registration at 5:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Saturday program will begin at 9:00 a.m. and wrap up about 2:00 p.m. More details will be forthcoming, but for now be certain to mark your calendar!
